Beat the Heat: Mayor Sarno Announces Early Opening of City Pools, Splash Pads, and Five Mile Pond!

The summer heat is here, and Springfield is ready to help residents cool off. Mayor Domenic J. Sarno and Patrick J. Sullivan, Executive Director of Parks, Buildings, and Recreation Management, recently announced that the Forest Park Pool, Gerena Pool, and Five Mile Pond will open this Saturday. This is a day earlier than planned, thanks to a budget boost from the Mayor aimed at keeping the community comfortable during the upcoming heat wave.

In a recent statement, Mayor Sarno urged everyone to stay hydrated and look out for elderly neighbors. He reminded residents to utilize cooling centers and park facilities as temperatures rise.

Here’s when and where you can beat the heat this Saturday, June 30, 2018:

  • Forest Park Pool: 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
  • Gerena Pool: 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
  • Five Mile Pond: 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
  • Myrtle Street Splash Pad: Open all day

Some spray parks are still being renovated, but they will be ready to splash into action soon:

  • Barrows Spray Park: July 5
  • Adams Spray Park: July 11
  • Forest Park Spray Park: July 20
