Bengaluru: Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), a key player in India’s defense sector, has signed a significant contract worth ₹593.22 crore with the Indian Air Force (IAF) to provide maintenance services for the Akash missile system. This partnership is set to kick off the 2025-26 financial year on a positive note.

BEL previously supplied the Akash missile system to the IAF, earning this maintenance contract as part of its commitment to national defense. Additionally, the company is in the process of finalizing orders valued at ₹5,000 crore, according to their recent statement.
For the financial year 2024-25, BEL reported impressive growth with a turnover of approximately ₹23,000 crore, up from ₹19,820 crore the previous year, marking a 16% increase. This includes export sales nearing $106 million, which is a 14% increase from $92.98 million last year.
During the fiscal year, BEL secured orders worth ₹18,715 crore. Major contracts included upgrades for BMP II, Ashwini Radar, Software Defined Radios, and Advance Drone Systems, among others. As of April 1, 2025, BEL’s total order backlog stands at around ₹71,650 crore, with an export order value of $359 million.
Manoj Jain, Chairman and Managing Director of BEL, noted that the company aims for self-reliance through increased indigenization and partnerships with Indian industries, including small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and startups. These strategies are designed to enhance BEL’s global presence in the strategic electronics sector.
Financially, BEL has experienced a remarkable 47.3% rise in net profit for the third quarter of December 2024, reaching ₹1,316.06 crore compared to ₹893.30 crore in the same quarter of the prior year. Similarly, revenue from operations surged by 38.6% to ₹5,770.69 crore, up from ₹4,162.16 crore during the corresponding period last year.
This growth reflects BEL’s robust position in the market and its commitment to advancing India’s defense capabilities. As the company continues to expand, it will likely play an essential role in shaping the future of defense technology and industry in India.
