Bethpage Newsgram: St. Patrick’s Food Drive Celebrates 2,500 Items Collected for Our Community!

On March 14, Senator Steve Rhoads organized a St. Patrick’s Day Food Drive, marking his first initiative of this kind. Student intern Nickolas Zgombic led the effort. Thanks to his hard work, the event collected over 2,500 items, including food, hygiene products, and household items. This effort supported Island Harvest and the It’s All About The Kids Foundation.

Held outside ShopRite in Old Bethpage, the drive attracted many volunteers, including members of the Nassau County Police Explorers. Angelica Gomez, the president of the It’s All About The Kids Foundation, emphasized the event’s impact: “It’s a powerful reminder of what a community can accomplish together. We are grateful to everyone who volunteered and donated.”

The collected items will be distributed to families in need through Island Harvest, one of Long Island’s largest hunger-relief organizations. Additional support will reach the Bellmore–Merrick Community Cupboard and other local families.

Nickolas expressed his gratitude, stating, “This event showed just how many people are willing to lend a hand. I’m thankful to all the volunteers and donors who took the time to help.”

Senator Rhoads praised Nickolas and the community’s efforts, noting that the drive would have a real impact on families facing hardships. He highlighted Nickolas’ leadership as a shining example of civic engagement, encouraging future public servants to follow in his footsteps.
