Beware This Jell-O Flavor: The Strange Smell and Unpleasant Aftertaste to Avoid!

Jell-O is a classic summer treat that’s easy to whip up. Just boil some water, mix in the powder, add cold water, and chill it overnight. Sounds great, right? Well, one flavor, in particular, didn’t quite hit the mark during a recent taste test of 11 varieties: the Jell-O Zero Sugar Black Cherry.

From the moment it was opened, the smell raised some eyebrows. The expected cherry aroma was mixed with an odd, earthy scent. The taste followed suit, with light cherry flavors overshadowed by a tartness that wasn’t pleasant. To add to that, a lingering aftertaste from artificial sweeteners made it hard to enjoy.

Sadly, the regular Black Cherry variety didn’t fare much better. While it lacked the unpleasant aftertaste, it too failed to impress. The onset of sweetness was a nice touch, but the experience fell flat with a mix of overpowering tartness.

If you’re craving a black cherry dessert, it might be best to make your own. Using pure black cherry juice is an easy alternative. Just boil a cup of juice, mix in unflavored gelatin, add another cup of cold juice, and let it set in the fridge. This homemade version can offer a more authentic and tasty experience.

Not all Jell-O flavors are bad, though. Some staples, like lime, still shine as refreshing summer options. And as tastes change, many companies are working on improving flavors, using real fruit juices and natural sweeteners.

In fact, according to a recent survey by The Food Institute, consumer preferences are shifting towards products with cleaner ingredients. More people are seeking out desserts that are not only delicious but also made with natural components.

So, while black cherry might not be the best choice, there are plenty of options to discover in the world of Jell-O. Whether you choose to buy or make your own, summer is the perfect time to enjoy this fun dessert.
