This initiative focuses on providing essential services that ensure soldiers can perform their duties effectively. U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Crystal Yazzie oversees food operations, ensuring that everything from sourcing ingredients to serving meals runs smoothly.

“Food is not just about nourishment; it’s also about comfort and community,” emphasizes Sgt. 1st Class Madiya Nieves. Quality meals can lift spirits and bring a sense of home to those far away from their families.

The team, led by food service manager Seth Kilkuskie, is driven by their own experiences. Having served in the Marine Corps, Kilkuskie understands how essential it is for deployed troops to feel connected to home. Each meal aims to provide a taste of familiarity and warmth.

In a recent survey by the Department of Defense, service members indicated that good food significantly impacts their mental well-being while deployed. Eighty-five percent of respondents noted that access to quality meals enhances their overall morale.

The dining facility team takes pride in its reputation among service members. Positive word of mouth has made CSL Kismayo’s dining experience highly regarded. “We tell our team to strive for excellence every day; it’s important to create a welcoming atmosphere,” Kilkuskie adds.

This commitment doesn’t go unnoticed. Leaders at CSL Kismayo recognize the impact of these efforts. “The dedication of our contractors to providing good food reflects their commitment to personnel welfare,” says Nieves.
