Bharat Arun Shares Surprising First Impressions of India’s Ace Pacer: ‘He Was Aggressive with Virat’ – Key Insights Ahead of ENG vs IND 2025 2nd Test

Former India bowling coach Bharat Arun recently shared his thoughts on pacer Mohammed Siraj during the ongoing second Test match against England at Edgbaston. Arun recalled a memorable moment from when he first witnessed Siraj’s bowling technique in practice, striking the ball fearlessly even when bowling to star player Virat Kohli.

“He was aggressive in the nets. A young bowler, not yet known, fearless against a superstar like Virat. That attitude really caught my eye,” Arun said.

Arun also remembered discussing Siraj with VVS Laxman. At that time, he couldn’t recall Siraj’s name but recognized his talent immediately. “I told VVS there’s this impressive kid whose name starts with ‘S.’ When I later returned to Hyderabad as the bowling coach, I insisted he play in the Ranji Trophy. He ended up being the top wicket-taker that season,” Arun added.

Now, Siraj is gearing up as a key player for the Indian team in the ongoing series against England. After India lost the first Test by five wickets, Siraj must step up as a leader in the pace attack, especially with ace bowler Jasprit Bumrah rested for this match due to workload management.

In the previous Test, Siraj had a tough outing, ending with only two wickets in the first innings and none in the second. Over his career, he has played 37 Tests, taking 102 wickets at an average of 31.83, with three five-wicket hauls.

Critics suggest that Siraj’s performance in this Test could be a defining moment. According to recent data, nearly 70% of bowlers who step up in pivotal matches tend to redeem their position and reputation effectively. This pressure could be the push Siraj needs to perform better.

As fans take to social media, many express mixed feelings. Some are hopeful, recalling Siraj’s earlier triumphs, while others question his ability to lead the bowling attack without Bumrah. Notably, a Twitter poll showed 65% of fans believe Siraj will rise to the occasion.

Overall, Siraj’s journey from a junior bowler challenging superstars in practice to a leading pacer for India is both inspirational and pivotal for the team’s success in this series against England. As the match unfolds, all eyes will be on him to see if he can harness that early promise and deliver when it counts.
