Bharat Celebrates as Indian Athletes Defend Gothia Cup Title: Highlights from the Felicitation Ceremony

New Delhi, July 21 (ANI) — Special Olympics Bharat recently celebrated the impressive achievements of Indian football teams at the Gothia Cup 2025 in Gothenburg, Sweden. The ceremony featured Raksha Khadse, Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports, and Mallika Nadda, President of Special Olympics Bharat.

With support from SKF, the Special Olympics Bharat Boys and the Haryana U-15 Girls teams represented India in this milestone edition of the Gothia Cup, which marked its 50th anniversary.

The boys’ team showcased extraordinary skill and teamwork, emerging champions for the second year in a row. Their path to victory was a testament to their determination and spirit, embodying the broader message of inclusivity that Special Olympics promotes.

India triumphed over Poland with a final score of 3-1. Ankush Kumar scored two goals at 8 and 14 minutes, while Saheer Muhammad found the net at the 29-minute mark. Saheer also became India’s top goalscorer with seven goals in the tournament, followed by Ankush with three and Stalin Kumar with two.

Raksha Khadse praised the athletes, stating, “These young champions exemplify India’s spirit — courage, perseverance, and unity. Their success on the world stage inspires pride in every Indian heart. This victory signifies that every child, regardless of their challenges, deserves a chance to shine.”

Mallika Nadda highlighted the significance of their win, noting it as a call to action for inclusivity and belief in the capabilities of athletes with disabilities. “Their fierce performances remind us of the importance of investment and support in inclusive sports,” she said.

In recent years, inclusive sports have gained immense traction, with growing recognition on social media platforms. Positive user reactions often showcase the inspirational impact these events have on audiences, fostering a sense of community and support.

Statistics from the 2022 Special Olympics Global Youth Survey reveal that 85% of respondents believe that inclusive sports can break down social barriers. Such data underscores the crucial role these events play in shaping attitudes towards inclusivity.

These remarkable feats by the Special Olympics Bharat teams serve not just as victories in sport but as milestones for broader societal change, showcasing the power of unity and determination.
