Big PS Plus Shakeup: Sony Removes Iconic PS3 Titles ‘Resistance: Fall of Man’ and ‘Resistance 2’ from PS4 and PS5 – What It Means for Gamers!

Next month, a significant change will hit the PlayStation Plus library. On May 20, 2025, 22 games will vanish from the service, including fan favorites like Grand Theft Auto 5, Payday 2: Crimewave Edition, and the last remaining playable versions of Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2.

PlayStation Plus is an online service for PlayStation gamers. It offers free monthly games, online multiplayer, limited-time trials, and exclusive discounts. Plus, Extra and Premium members can access a rich collection of games—old classics and new gems alike.

The removal of these iconic titles is notable because it marks the end of accessibility for Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2, especially since they are no longer available for purchase on the PS Store. This leaves PlayStation Plus as the final destination to play these games unless you have a PS3 and the physical copies tucked away. Both titles were added to the service less than a year ago, which makes their quick disappearance surprising.

The Resistance series is known for its alternate history take on first-person shooters. It was created by Insomniac Games, the same studio famous for Ratchet and Clank. While three major games debuted on the PS3, Insomniac has since shifted focus to other franchises like Marvel’s Spider-Man.

This isn’t the first time Sony has made such a move. In August 2024, it shocked players by removing the highly popular Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon: Forbidden West from the service. However, those games were still available for purchase even after their removal. In contrast, the Resistance titles will cease to exist in any digital format on modern consoles.

Interestingly, Resistance 3 and Resistance: Retribution will remain available on PS Plus. However, InFamous: Second Son, another notable PS4 title, will also be leaving the service.

The silence surrounding the Resistance series raises questions about its future. Earlier this year, Ted Price, the founder of Insomniac, mentioned a strong desire among fans for Resistance 4. Still, that project hasn’t moved forward, which adds to the uncertainty about the franchise.

As Resistance slips into the archives, it leaves behind a legacy that fans still cherish. In a world filled with rapid change, it’s a reminder of how quickly access to beloved games can fade away.
