VESTAL, N.Y. – The Binghamton Bearcats baseball team lost a close game to Bryant, ending with a score of 6-5 in the final match of their series at the Bearcats Baseball Complex.
Binghamton had some excitement at the plate, with Freddy Forgione, Evin Sullivan, and Zach Rogacki hitting home runs. However, it was Gavin Greger’s solo homer in the eighth inning that made the crucial difference for Bryant.
The Bearcats kicked off the scoring when Zack Kent was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, allowing Matt Bolton to score. But Bryant quickly answered back with consecutive home runs from Gavin Noriega and Drew Wyers in the third inning, taking a 3-1 lead.
Forgione hit a solo home run in the fourth inning, closing the gap to 3-2. The Bulldogs added two more runs in the fifth. Sullivan responded with a two-run homer, narrowing the score to 5-4.
Connor Griffin, a standout pitcher, kept Binghamton in the game by retiring six of the seven batters he faced in the sixth and seventh innings. Rogacki then brought the Bearcats back to a tie in the seventh with a solo shot, his third home run this season.
In the eighth, Brady Lesiak took the mound for Binghamton. Unfortunately, Greger hit another home run, giving Bryant a 6-5 lead. Lesiak showed resilience by striking out four batters over two innings, marking a career high for the freshman.
In the dramatic ninth inning, Binghamton needed just one run to extend the game. Logan Haskell and Bolton started strong with back-to-back singles, and Rogacki moved them to second and third with a sacrifice bunt. Looking for a game-winning moment, Sullivan stepped up to the plate but hit into a double play, ending the game before the Bearcats could score.
Binghamton looks ahead to its next matchup against Cornell at the Bearcats Baseball Complex on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
This season, home runs have become a trend in college baseball. According to recent NCAA statistics, the average number of home runs per game has increased significantly, reflecting changes in player performance and equipment technology.
