BJP spokespersons R P Singh and Jaiveer Shergill have asked the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) for help. They want to ensure the safe return of elderly Sikh couples stuck at a Gurdwara in Tehran, Iran. A Mahan Air flight set for May 5 isn’t letting them board without permission from the government.
In a letter, Singh urged External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to step in. He expressed deep concern for the families who are feeling anxious amid the area’s unstable security situation. Due to recent geopolitical tensions, these elderly couples can’t travel back home independently.
Shergill echoed Singh’s plea, stressing that the Iranian Sikh couples need assistance. He noted the airline’s refusal to allow them on the flight without government clearance. He also reached out on social media, appealing to the MEA for immediate action.
The MEA has stepped up its efforts to monitor the situation in West Asia. Keeping Indian nationals safe is a top priority. Indian missions are in constant touch with the community, coordinating support and issuing safety advisories as needed. Since late February, about 1.3 million passengers have traveled from West Asia back to India.
