BJ’s Donates Significant Grant to Franklin Food Pantry: A Boost for Local Families!

BJ’s Wholesale Club recently announced a significant donation of $1.25 million aimed at fighting hunger, starting in Massachusetts. This initiative, backed by BJ’s Charitable Foundation, will help food banks and pantries expand their services, including new trucks and refrigeration units.

Bob Eddy, the CEO of BJ’s, emphasized that the company exists to support families in need. For over 40 years, BJ’s has focused on positively impacting local communities, with Massachusetts as a priority.

One key beneficiary is the Franklin Food Pantry, which plans to use part of the grant for a new refrigerated truck and cooling units. The pantry supports nearly 25,000 individuals each year and has seen a 38% increase in demand for its services from 2023 to 2024.

Tina Powderly, Executive Director of Franklin Food Pantry, expressed gratitude for BJ’s support, highlighting how these resources will help serve more people. Other Massachusetts organizations receiving funds include Pearl Street Cupboard and Café, Marlborough Community Cupboard, and El Buen Samaritano.

The issue of food insecurity is particularly severe right now. According to Feeding America, about 47 million people in the U.S. experience food challenges, including 1 in 5 children. This is the highest level in a decade. BJ’s long-term partnership with Feeding America has already provided more than 155 million meals over 15 years, a testament to its commitment to addressing hunger.

Lauren Biedron from Feeding America noted the importance of partnerships like BJ’s as local food banks face increased demand. BJ’s not only provides financial support but also donates essential food items including fresh produce, meat, and dairy.
