CHICAGO — Sacha Boisvert is ready for a fresh start. The Chicago Blackhawks selected him with the No. 18 pick in the 2024 NHL Draft. After an impressive freshman season at the University of North Dakota, where he notched 32 points in 37 games, Boisvert is looking to make his mark at Boston University.
After North Dakota parted ways with coach Brad Berry, who brought Boisvert to the team, he decided to transfer to BU. Now, he’s eager to contribute as a sophomore.
“I’m really excited to go to Boston. It’s just a six-hour drive from home, so my family can come to see me more often,” Boisvert shared at the Blackhawks development camp in July. He’s optimistic about joining a strong program under coach Jay Pandolfo.
“It’s a great team, and I can’t wait to get started,” he added. Although transferring wasn’t on his radar, Boisvert reflects positively on his time at North Dakota. “I had a great experience there. It was a fun season, and I think I improved a lot as a player,” he said.
At BU, Boisvert joins a team that recently reached the NCAA Frozen Four championship game, losing to Western Michigan. His playing style aligns with Pandolfo’s approach; the former NHL forward won two Stanley Cups and emphasizes strong two-way play.
Mark Eaton, the Blackhawks’ assistant general manager of player development, commented on Boisvert’s potential. “He’s the kind of player who can excel on both ends of the ice. Under Pandolfo at BU, he’ll hone those skills further,” Eaton noted. “The strength and conditioning program there is top-notch and will help him gain power and explosiveness.”
Boisvert stands 6-foot-2 and weighs 176 pounds. His resume is already impressive, having been named the National Collegiate Hockey Conference rookie of the year. He also made the all-rookie team and was recognized as rookie of the month twice during his freshman year.
As the NHL continually evolves, younger players like Boisvert are adapting to the speed and skill of the game. According to recent statistics, the average age of rookie players in the NHL has been decreasing, highlighting the increasing reliance on fresh talent. The ability to adapt quickly and thrive in competitive environments is crucial for success.
Boisvert’s journey reflects the determination and resilience required in sports. As he transitions to Boston University, many fans are enthusiastic about his future. Social media buzzes with excitement over his potential, as supporters eagerly await his contributions on the ice. With a promising foundation and a strong support system, Boisvert is poised to continue his growth in the sport.
