NCRTD News:
As the government shutdown persists, communities in northern New Mexico are feeling the effects. The North Central Regional Transit District (NCRTD) is stepping up to assist those in need, particularly when it comes to accessing food resources.
The NCRTD has put together a list of local food pantries and distribution centers in towns like Española, Taos, Santa Fe, Mora, and Los Alamos. Residents can easily reach these locations using the free Blue Bus routes or the MyBlue™ rideshare services.
“In tough times like this, it’s crucial for our communities to know we’re here for them,” said Nick Sofoul, Executive Director of the NCRTD. “Our goal is to connect people to what matters most—right now, that’s food and essential resources.”
Lee A. Garcia, the NCRTD Board Chair, also emphasized the importance of the Blue Bus service, stating, “It’s a lifeline for many here. We’re committed to ensuring everyone has access to food and support.”

In recent surveys, many residents noted how important public transit services are during crises like this shutdown. Roughly 60% of respondents indicated that they rely on local transit for accessing food and healthcare. Such statistics highlight the significance of services like the Blue Bus during challenging times.
Historically, during past government shutdowns, communities have often turned to local services for support, showcasing the resilience of public transportation in meeting citizens’ needs. As the current situation unfolds, the NCRTD aims to provide stability and assistance to those most affected.
