The Italian Space Agency has selected Blue Skies Space, a European company, to develop a satellite fleet around the moon aimed at unraveling the mysteries of the ancient universe. Alongside OHB Italia, Blue Skies is launching a project named RadioLuna. This initiative will explore whether small satellites can capture faint radio signals from the "Dark Ages" of the universe—before the first stars emerged.

Detecting these radio signals is challenging from Earth due to overwhelming human-made radio interference. However, the far side of the moon offers a quieter environment, allowing the possibility of picking up these elusive cosmic whispers. If successful, RadioLuna could help scientists map the universe’s infancy, offering insights into its formation.
Marcell Tessenyi, co-founder and CEO of Blue Skies, expressed gratitude to the Italian Space Agency for their support in this groundbreaking venture. The project aims at leveraging the infrastructure provided by various space programs, such as ESA’s Moonlight and NASA’s Artemis, which are critical for creating a lunar economy.
The proposed satellite network will consist of small cubesats that incorporate readily available commercial components. This design choice aims to keep the project cost-effective and efficient.
