Bones Discovered Near Site Linked to Three Missing Girls as Manhunt for Their Father Intensifies

Bones were discovered near a campground in the Cascade Mountains during the search for 33-year-old Travis Decker, who is suspected of killing his three young daughters. The tragic news came after the bodies of Paityn (9), Evelyn (8), and Olivia (5) were found on June 2 in Washington State.

The FBI is currently analyzing the bones to confirm if they are human. Ted Halla, an FBI Seattle spokesperson, noted that the bones were collected during the search activities around the Rock Island Campground.

Earlier in the investigation, DNA found on plastic bags near the girls’ bodies matched Decker’s. The local medical examiner determined that the girls had died from suffocation, labeling their deaths as homicides. Following this, a significant manhunt for Decker began, with authorities concerned he might evade capture due to his military background and knowledge of the outdoors.

Decker’s truck was found close to the campground, in a rugged area about 150 miles east of Seattle. He faces three counts of first-degree murder and kidnapping, with an arrest warrant issued against him.

The dire situation began when Decker’s ex-wife reported that he had not returned the girls after a scheduled visit on May 30. Washington State Patrol indicated that this report did not lead to an Amber Alert because a late return alone does not imply abduction or an imminent threat.

Motives in the case remain unclear. Court documents reveal that nearly a year ago, Decker resisted signing a parenting plan that required him to seek mental health treatment.

Sheriff Michael L. Morrison discussed the ongoing efforts to find Decker or any evidence related to the case. Over two days, around 100 law enforcement personnel scoured the area for clues, but the sheriff admitted that it’s uncertain whether Decker is alive or dead. The search continues to follow any credible leads.

In recent years, cases of parental abduction and violence have gained more attention, sparking conversations about intervention and preventive measures. According to a 2022 report by the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, there were over 17,000 child abduction cases reported in the U.S., highlighting the need for better resources and support for families at risk.
