ADM is making waves in canine health with its latest study on the postbiotic called PRIOME Oral Care. Published in the journal Animals, this research highlights a specific strain, Lactiplantibacillus plantarum CECT 9161, known for its potential in helping dogs maintain a healthy mouth.
The study involved 60 healthy adult dogs. After dental cleanings, they were split into three groups. Each group received either a placebo or different doses of the postbiotic mixed into their kibble for 57 days. Researchers monitored dental plaque, gum health, and bad breath during this time.
Some notable findings emerged. Dogs on the high dose of the postbiotic showed a significant 10% decrease in plaque between days 29 and 57. Even those on the lower dose showed promise, indicating that both dosages had benefits compared to the placebo. A deeper analysis of the oral microbiome suggested that the postbiotic may enhance overall oral health.
