Greece is taking a big step to better protect its natural areas. The Environment and Energy Ministry is hiring 340 permanent employees. This is the first time such a large group of staff will be dedicated to managing the Natura 2000 sites.
The new team will work for the Natural Environment and Climate Change Organization (OFYPEKA). The roles will include various specialists like biologists, foresters, geologists, and administrative staff. There will also be positions for forest rangers and guides. This diverse group will be vital in preserving Greece’s beautiful landscapes.
To ensure qualified candidates are chosen, the hiring process will focus on applicants’ relevant experiences. Interestingly, 26 positions are specifically open for candidates with disabilities, reflecting a commitment to inclusivity.
Minister Thodoros Skylakakis emphasized the urgency of addressing the climate crisis. He stated, “We need strong policies for prevention and management. By hiring 340 permanent employees, we’re investing in the expertise needed to protect our ecosystem.” This initiative follows another plan to fill 500 positions in forestry services, indicating a serious commitment to environmental management.
This hiring effort highlights the government’s recognition that combating climate change is a continuous challenge. It’s not just about protecting forests but ensuring that specialists are on hand to tackle this pressing issue effectively.
