The From Food to Flowers: Everything Local Conference is back! Mark your calendars for January 29-31 in Springfield, Illinois. This exciting event will gather people from the local food, specialty crop, and farmers market sectors across the state.
This conference is a collaboration among farmers, agribusiness leaders, and organizations like the Illinois Farm Bureau, Illinois Specialty Growers Association, and the Illinois Farmers Market Association. It’s a great opportunity to strengthen local food systems and build connections.
Raghela Scavuzzo, from the Illinois Farm Bureau, mentions, “This conference is a unique time for everyone in the regional food system to come together. It’s about sharing knowledge, networking, and planning for the future. The relationships formed here can lead to new markets and better regulations.”
Held at the Bank of Springfield Center, the conference will feature:
- More than 80 exhibitors showcasing their products
- Over 100 speakers from various fields
- Three general sessions with industry leaders
- Eight breakout sessions and four specialization tracks
- Produce Safety Certification workshops
This year’s keynote speaker is Ambassador Ertharin Cousin, an advocate for global food security. She has held significant roles, including the executive director of the United Nations World Food Programme. Under her leadership, the organization provided life-saving food assistance to millions around the world.
Attendees will have many chances to engage, including:
- Listening to keynote speakers passionate about local food markets
- Joining breakout sessions on topics like digital marketing and grant writing
- Connecting with vendors and nonprofits at the trade show
Jenna Spychal, chairman of the Illinois Specialty Growers Association, states that the conference connects farmers and agribusiness leaders to enhance Illinois’ local agriculture system. “It’s a perfect place to network and create valuable partnerships,” she adds.
Exciting events will also take place, such as the Illinois Apple Cider Contest and various training workshops. Janie Maxwell, executive director of the Illinois Farmers Market Association, highlights the value of sharing experiences. “Building connections and learning from each other is what makes this conference special,” she says.

The Illinois Farm Bureau, established in 1916, advocates for farmers and rural communities. They provide support to enhance careers and improve farming practices in Illinois.
The Illinois Specialty Growers Association promotes the state’s specialty crop industry, helping growers connect and coordinate their efforts since 1989.
The Illinois Farmers Market Association, formed in 2012, works to connect farmers markets with managers, producers, and shoppers to promote fresh, local foods and support market growth.
