STEVENS POINT, Wis. — The Food Truck Fest at District 1 Brewing is a fantastic way for local businesses to shine. This event allows food trucks to connect with the community and showcase their offerings.
Chris Gethers, co-owner of District 1, emphasized the goal: “It’s not about us. We want to support other businesses and give them a chance.” Vendors travel from places like Stevens Point and Appleton, eagerly seizing the opportunity to boost their sales.
Kayla Wellbrock, owner of ‘Wandering Elixer’, highlighted the importance of this event for small businesses. “Having a free space to set up is invaluable,” she shared. Her company, which launched in 2024, specializes in mocktails for those who prefer non-alcoholic options. “Wisconsin has a big drinking culture, so it’s exciting to see our zero-proof community growing,” she added.
What sets this festival apart is that District 1 doesn’t profit from it. They provide food trucks with free space instead of charging them, which is common at similar events. If a food truck has a successful day, Gethers simply asks for a small donation to support musicians and cover rental costs for tables and chairs.
The festival usually occurs at the start of May, mid-summer, and over Labor Day weekend. Regardless of the weather, the food trucks are open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., welcoming customers rain or shine.
Trends show a growing interest in non-alcoholic beverages, supported by recent surveys indicating a significant uptick in mocktail consumption among younger generations. This aligns with Wellbrock’s observations about the increasing popularity of alcohol-free options. The rise of social media influencers promoting a sober lifestyle has also contributed to this trend.
In a time when many local businesses face challenges, events like the Food Truck Fest not only help them thrive but create a sense of community among residents. It’s not just about food—it’s about connection, support, and sustainability.
