Borderlands 4 Sales Lag Due to PC Technical Glitches, But Take-Two CEO Optimistic About Recovery – IGN Insights

Take-Two Interactive recently expressed optimism about the future of Borderlands 4, despite early launch issues that impacted U.S. sales. In an interview with IGN, CEO Strauss Zelnick acknowledged the hiccups but assured that the game would recover over time.

During its launch weekend, Borderlands 4 was met with overwhelming interest, reaching peak player counts on Steam. Critics praised it, calling it potentially “the best Borderlands yet.” However, technical problems quickly frustrated fans. Players reported significant performance issues, even with high-end gaming setups, driving many to lower their graphics settings for a smoother experience.

Zelnick noted that while initial U.S. sales were soft due to these challenges, he believes things will get better. He expressed confidence that the game would eventually find its footing and achieve strong sales overall. Gearbox, the game’s developer, has been working on fixes, addressing complaints about performance and features missing at launch, such as Field of View (FOV) sliders.

Interestingly, despite the negative user feedback—currently reflected in a 4.5/10 user score on Metacritic—Borderlands 4 was reported by Circana as the top-selling premium game in September 2025. This boost shows that revenue can sometimes tell a different story than user satisfaction, suggesting players may still be willing to invest despite initial frustrations.

Fans on social media have been vocal, with mixed reactions circulating on platforms like Twitter and Reddit. While some express hope for improvements through updates, others feel let down by the game’s technical performance at launch.

As of now, Gearbox is committed to refining the game and releasing additional content, including seasonal events that may keep players engaged. The last patch addressed various issues and hinted that more balance changes are on the way.

With the gaming community watching closely, it remains to be seen how Borderlands 4 will evolve in the coming months. Will it fully recover from its rocky launch? Only time will tell.
