BOSTON – The Boston Bruins made an exciting trade today. General Manager Don Sweeney announced that the team has acquired defenseman Max Wanner. They also received a second-round draft pick in 2025 and a fourth-round pick in 2026 from the Edmonton Oilers. In exchange, the Bruins let go of forwards Trent Frederic and Max Jones. Boston will keep half of Frederic’s salary for the 2024-25 season, and Wanner will join the Providence Bruins.
Max Wanner, a 21-year-old defenseman from Estevan, Saskatchewan, has played 22 games with the Bakersfield Condors this season, scoring one goal and adding one assist. Standing at 6 feet 3 inches and weighing 184 pounds, he has played a total of 90 games in the AHL, netting eight goals and 11 assists. Wanner was picked by Edmonton in the seventh round of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft.
Trent Frederic, 27, has played 57 games for the Bruins this season, scoring eight goals and providing seven assists. The 6-foot-3, 221-pound forward has participated in 337 NHL games all with Boston, accumulating a total of 109 points. Frederic was drafted in the first round by Boston in 2016.
Max Jones, also 27, has seen action in seven games with the Bruins this year. He performed well at the AHL level, playing 38 games with the Providence Bruins, where he scored 13 goals and added eight assists. Throughout his NHL career, Jones has played 265 games with the Bruins and the Anaheim Ducks, scoring 31 goals and 31 assists. He was selected by Anaheim in the first round of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.
