In a tightly contested hockey match, No. 19 Boston University edged out Massachusetts with a single goal, winning 1-0. This game marked the start of the second half of the 2025-26 season. With this loss, the Minutemen’s record dropped to 9-10-0 overall and 2-7-0 in Hockey East, while the Terriers improved to 10-8-1, standing 7-5-0 in the league.
UMass head coach Greg Carvel commented, “I wanted a defensive game, and that’s what we got.” He praised his team for limiting the talented BU squad to just one goal. Despite some injury setbacks, including losing Mikey DeAngelo during the first period, the team showed resilience.
The first period saw few scoring chances, with Boston University holding a slight 7-4 lead in shots on goal. Midway through the second, Aiden Celebrini’s shot was blocked, but Jack Harvey was quick to score from the rebound, putting BU ahead at 7:49.
In the third period, the Minutemen fought hard for an equalizer. Owen Mehlenbacher hit the post with 14 minutes left. Just minutes later, Daniel Jencko had a chance breakaway but was stopped by BU’s goalie Mikhail Yegorov.
Overall, BU out-shot UMass 30 to 18, with both teams failing to score on their power plays. UMass goalie Michael Hrabal made 29 saves, while Yegorov earned a shutout.
