Her latest venture, “The Official Release Party of a Showgirl,” is topping box office charts with an impressive $33 million over its opening weekend. This film, which is more of a unique listening experience than a traditional movie, pulled in a total of $46 million worldwide, including $13 million from international sales. It was released just two weeks after its announcement, relying mostly on Swift’s social media to spread the word.

Unlike her previous record-breaking concert film “The Eras Tour,” this 89-minute event offers fans a glimpse into her new music video and exclusive behind-the-scenes content related to her 12th studio album, “The Life of a Showgirl.” Industry expert David A. Gross from Franchise Entertainment Research remarked, “No other musical artist on the planet can do this.”

Fans were eager to participate, with tickets starting at $12, a price that’s still reasonable compared to major urban areas. The audience feedback has been stellar; it scored an “A+” on CinemaScore, reflecting strong viewer satisfaction. However, this unique cinematic experience is only scheduled for a limited run from October 3 to 5, which means its impact may be temporary.

AMC Theatres CEO Adam Aron praised Swift, saying, “Her brilliance and magic in theaters this weekend is truly commendable.”

In contrast, Dwayne Johnson’s new film, “The Smashing Machine,” struggled at the box office, landing in third place with $6 million. This outcome was disappointing, as experts had projected between $8 and $15 million. The film was expected to be a major contender but fell short, possibly due to Johnson’s shift from family-friendly roles to a more serious dramatic performance as a wrestler making a comeback after battling substance abuse.

While “The Smashing Machine” received positive reviews (73% on Rotten Tomatoes), audiences gave it a “B-” grade, reflecting mixed feelings. Gross pointed out that the film’s subject matter might limit its international appeal.

The second spot at the box office was filled by Leonardo DiCaprio’s “One Battle After Another,” which earned $10.3 million but saw a 53% drop from its debut. Although it has become the highest-grossing film of director Paul Thomas Anderson’s career, it’s still struggled to meet its production cost of over $130 million.

Weekend releases also included “Anemone,” starring Daniel Day-Lewis, which failed to attract viewers, earning a mere $700,000 from 856 screens. This reflects a tough market for even established actors.

Meanwhile, Disney re-released “Avatar: The Way of Water,” bringing in $10 million globally. This move not only rekindles interest ahead of December’s upcoming sequel but also highlights the longevity of these cinematic giants.
