GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The No. 17 University of Michigan women’s lacrosse team had an impressive showing, beating USF 16-10 on Sunday (Feb. 15). This victory wrapped up a flawless weekend in Florida for the Wolverines.
Junior Emma Bradbury was the star, scoring six goals and adding three assists for a total of nine points. This performance puts her second in Michigan’s single-game history for points. Graduate student Katharine Merrifield also shined, netting a hat trick, while teammates Calli Norris and Emerson Pattillo each added two goals. Sophomore Caroline Byrd tallied five points with one goal and four assists.
The game was a rollercoaster. Michigan found themselves down by four goals twice but showed resilience. They tied things up in the third quarter and took control, outscoring USF 6-1 in the final period.
Sophomore Emma Burke excelled at the draw, winning 12 times. On defense, Ava Class and Taylor Cullen each caused two turnovers, contributing to a solid team effort. In goal, Elizabeth Johnson and Madeline Jensen made crucial saves throughout the match.
USF started fast, establishing a 5-1 lead in the first quarter. Michigan closed the gap in the second quarter, trailing 8-5 at halftime. Just 50 seconds into the third, Michigan scored and quickly launched a seven-goal run. The Bulls managed another score, but the Wolverines finished strong with three consecutive goals, locking down the victory.
In sports, momentum can shift quickly. The Wolverines’ comeback highlights their determination and team spirit, often essential for success in any competitive field.
