Brandl Dominates with Two-Hit Shutout Against Jackson State: A Must-See Performance for UH Manoa Athletics Fans!

HONOLULU—Macy Brandl, the starting pitcher for the University of Hawai’i, delivered an outstanding performance, leading the Rainbow Wahine to a 7-0 victory over Jackson State at the OUTRIGGER Invitational. This game, held at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium, was a solid show of skill from the ‘Bows, improving their record to 12-6.

Brandl was impressive on the mound, allowing just two hits over seven innings. She struck out five batters and walked four, marking her second complete-game shutout in her career at UH. Her strong performance kept the Tigers from scoring, even when they managed to load the bases early in the first inning. Thanks to quick thinking from third baseman Liliana Thomas, who threw out a runner at home, the threat was neutralized.

Hawai’i responded quickly in the bottom of the first. After loading the bases, Carys Murakami stepped up and hit a clutch single, scoring two runs to give the ‘Bows a 2-0 lead. The team continued its momentum in the third inning with back-to-back home runs. Jamie McGaughey hit a solo shot to center field, followed by Milan Ah Yat who launched one over the left-field fence. These exciting plays highlighted the team’s power at the bat.

In the sixth inning, the Rainbow Wahine increased their lead. They loaded the bases once again, and McGaughey delivered another big hit with a bases-clearing double, bringing in three more runs and sealing the game at 7-0.

Jackson State’s starting pitcher, Jorgina Gant, had a tough outing, giving up seven runs on seven hits before being relieved in the sixth inning by Brooklyn Morris, who allowed one hit.

The OUTRIGGER Invitational continues on February 28, with Hawai’i set to face Jackson State again at 4:00 p.m. HT, followed by a game against Washington at 6:00 p.m. HT. Fans are encouraged to join in a food drive supporting the Hawai’i Foodbank by bringing non-perishable items to the games.
