Bowie State Softball Championship Highlights
In the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Softball Championship, Bowie State’s team faced a rollercoaster of emotions. They kicked off the tournament on May 7, ending the day with a split between two thrilling games.
Game One: A Tough Loss Against Winston-Salem State
Bowie State played Winston-Salem State first. After a shaky start, the Bulldogs struggled to recover, ultimately losing 7-1. Presleigh Braxton sparked a brief hope by scoring in the first inning, closing the gap to 2-1. However, Winston-Salem responded with two more runs, widening their lead. Despite some scoring attempts, including a bases-loaded situation, Bowie couldn’t capitalize. Game Two: A Redemption in a Dramatic Finish
Things took a turn for the better in the second game against Fayetteville State. Bowie State, facing elimination, clinched a nail-biting 5-4 victory. The Bulldogs started strong with a 2-0 lead built on mistakes from Fayetteville. Even when Fayetteville surged ahead with four runs in the seventh, Bowie State didn’t back down. With a last-inning rally, Presleigh Braxton crushed a three-run double, sealing the win. Aaliyah Amos shone as the pitcher, striking out 11 batters and only allowing one earned run.

In the first game, Braxton garnered attention with a hit and a stolen base. Makayla Drakeford and Sydney Seals also contributed on the mound.
In the second game, Braxton starred again, delivering three hits and three RBIs. Aaliyah Amos’s pitching prowess was vital for securing the win, while Angela Nguyen-Nhu and India Stokes also played crucial roles.
