Breaking: Bills’ 1st-Round Pick Maxwell Hairston Faces Sexual Assault Allegations – What You Need to Know

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Maxwell Hairston, a first-round draft pick for the Buffalo Bills, is facing serious allegations. A woman has filed a lawsuit claiming he sexually assaulted her at the University of Kentucky in 2021.

The lawsuit details an incident where Hairston allegedly entered her dorm room without permission. According to the complaint, when she expressed her refusal to engage in sexual activity, Hairston disregarded her and forcibly undressed her. The woman has chosen to remain anonymous, which is standard in sexual assault cases.

Hairston’s team has not commented on the ongoing legal matter, referring instead to statements made by general manager Brandon Beane. Back in April, Beane assured the public that the Bills had thoroughly investigated the allegations. He characterized Hairston as “an impeccable kid,” expressing disappointment that such claims are now associated with his name. “It’s unfortunate when things like that are attached to someone’s name,” he said.

Originally from West Bloomfield, Michigan, Hairston played three seasons at Kentucky before the Bills selected him with the 30th overall pick in the NFL draft this past April. As a cornerback, he has the chance to earn a starting role this season.

The Bills are currently on a break after finishing mandatory practices in mid-June and will resume with training camp later this month.

In recent years, sexual assault cases involving athletes have sparked significant public discussion. A study from the National Sexual Violence Resource Center highlights that about 1 in 5 women and 1 in 16 men are sexually assaulted while in college. Public reactions, especially on social media, can be intense, reflecting the complexities and the deep scars such allegations leave on all parties involved.
