Breaking News: 2 Pennsylvania State Troopers Injured, Suspect Fatally Shot in Franklin County Incident

Two Pennsylvania State Police troopers were injured, and a suspect was killed during a shootout on a highway in Franklin County on Wednesday evening. The incident began when troopers were called to a theft at Dick’s Sporting Goods in Guilford Township, near Chambersburg.

The suspects, who fled in a gold Chevrolet Express van, were pursued onto Interstate 81. Police used spike strips to stop the vehicle at exit 3, near Greencastle. As troopers approached the van, a gunfight broke out.

Two women, both 21 and from Baltimore, complied with the troopers’ orders and were arrested. However, a male suspect, later identified as 31-year-old Lamar Foy, opened fire, striking two troopers. They returned fire, killing Foy in the exchange.

Trooper Conditions and Reactions

Troopers Thomas Pack, 23, and Lucas Amarose, 31, were rushed to Wellspan York Hospital. Pack has since been treated and released, while Amarose underwent extensive surgery and remains in serious condition. Both troopers are being hailed for their bravery during this dangerous encounter. As Pennsylvania State Police Commissioner Christopher Paris noted, “It’s with great thankfulness that we are not here planning two line of duty funerals.”

In a statement, Pennsylvania’s Governor, Josh Shapiro, shared his support and prayers for the injured troopers. Similarly, organizations like the Pennsylvania State Troopers Association and the Fraternal Order of Police expressed gratitude for the officers’ bravery and solidarity with their families.

Police discovered a significant amount of drugs, cash, and stolen goods inside the van, leading investigators to suspect a larger crime operation. Franklin County District Attorney Ian Brink confirmed that the troopers’ use of force was justified, as Foy had fired multiple rounds at them. The handgun he used was stolen from Maryland just weeks prior.
