The NBA just revealed the All-Star reserves for 2026 ahead of the highly anticipated Knicks vs. Lakers game. Here’s a look at the players making their mark this season.
Eastern Conference Reserves
This year, three players are celebrating their first All-Star nods: Johnson, Powell, and Duren. Powell is shining in Miami, averaging a career-high 23.0 points per game. Johnson has transformed into a versatile force, boasting 23.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 8.0 assists per game while sinking 36% of his three-point shots. Duren is also making waves with 18.0 points and 10.7 rebounds a game, helping the Pistons lead the East.
Though Towns is having an off year in terms of shooting, he still leads the NBA with 11.8 rebounds per game while scoring 20.0 points on 36.4% shooting from beyond the arc. He joins fellow All-Star starter Jalen Brunson on the team and will partner with Duren, who plays alongside Cade Cunningham.
Western Conference Reserves
In the West, newcomers Murray, Holmgren, and Avdija are stepping into the spotlight. Murray is proving his worth with an impressive 25.8 points and 7.4 assists per game, keeping the Nuggets steady at the number 2 seed despite missing All-Star starter Nikola Jokic for multiple games.
Avdija has had a breakout season with the Blazers, jumping to 25.5 points per game, significantly up from last season’s 16.9. He’s also contributing 7.2 rebounds and 6.7 assists. Despite slowing down a bit, Holmgren’s defensive skills and 17.8 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks per game have anchored Oklahoma City’s lineup, especially in the absence of starting center Isaiah Hartenstein.
Booker earned his spot by leading the Suns, now holding a 30-19 record and eyeing a playoff position. James, still a significant presence in the league, made his 22nd consecutive All-Star team, averaging 21.9 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 6.6 assists for the Lakers.
Teams like the Lakers, Knicks, Thunder, Pistons, and Nuggets are proud to have multiple players honored this year.
Notable Omissions
Some familiar names missed the cut, including Michael Porter Jr., Kawhi Leonard, and Joel Embiid. They’re among the top candidates for potential injury replacements.
Ian Begley notes that the NBA is aiming for a USA vs. World format, needing at least eight international players. Stars like Luka Doncic and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander are already in the mix for the World team. With Giannis Antetokounmpo sidelined due to injury, a decision needs to be made on whether Towns and Powell will be classified as international players.
The official roster details will be announced soon. Excitement is building as fans anticipate the final selections and the thrilling matchups ahead.
