Last year, the most-watched show in the US was a charming Aussie Blue Heeler puppy named Bluey. This adorable series captured viewers’ hearts, especially children aged two to eleven, who watched a whopping 55.62 billion minutes of it on Disney+.
According to the recent Nielsen report, Bluey topped the charts in 2024, beating out long-time favorites like Grey’s Anatomy and Family Guy. Even SpongeBob SquarePants made the list, coming in at number ten with 27.87 billion minutes watched.
Another noteworthy mention is Gabby’s Dollhouse, which landed in the top ten for original streaming shows, gathering 10.74 billion minutes. Prime Video’s new series Beast Games, despite launching late in December, still managed to attract 700 million minutes of viewing time.
In total, viewers in the US streamed over 12 trillion minutes of content in 2024, marking a 10% increase from the previous year. Family-oriented films also shone brightly, with nine out of ten most-streamed movies being kid-friendly or animated. The sole exception was Prime Video’s PG-13 live-action film Red One.
The best-loved movie of the year was Disney’s Moana, racking up 13.03 billion minutes on Disney+, likely boosted by excitement for the anticipated Moana 2. Following closely was The Super Mario Bros. Movie on Netflix, with children accounting for 5.7 billion minutes of its total 11.72 billion minutes. Other popular films included Trolls Band Together and Paw Patrol: The Movie.
Nielsen also introduced the ARTEY Awards to honor top-performing streaming titles. Bluey received the award for Most Streamed Overall, while Moana took home the title for Top Streaming Movie.
