ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Former Michigan Wolverines head coach Sherrone Moore is now in the Washtenaw County Jail, facing an assault investigation. His arrest came just after his dismissal from the football program.
Moore was taken into custody by police on Wednesday. The Pittsfield Township Police did respond to reports of an assault around 4 p.m. but did not officially name him as a suspect in their release. He remains in jail as prosecutors review the case.
Moore’s troubles began when the University of Michigan fired him for inappropriate conduct with a staff member. Athletic Director Warde Manuel highlighted that Moore violated the university’s policies, which follow a strict code of conduct.

Last season, as interim head coach while Jim Harbaugh was suspended, he led the Wolverines to a spot in the College Football Playoff National Championship. He had just finished a second season with a respectable 9-3 record and was gearing up for the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl against Texas.
His recent discussions about Michigan’s 2026 recruiting class had generated excitement, particularly for players like running back Savion Hiter and defensive lineman Alister Vallejo.
