The U.S. Capitol Police confirmed that they responded to a situation where a driver rear-ended a parked car around 11:40 PM. It was during this response that Haynes was taken into custody for DUI.

Haynes has been with Johnson’s team since 2017 and became his chief of staff in October 2023. He also served as Johnson’s campaign manager in 2016. A Louisiana native, Haynes graduated from Louisiana Tech University in 2011 and earned a graduate degree from Gonzaga University in 2014.

Despite the arrest, Johnson’s office expressed full confidence in Haynes’ ability to lead. They highlighted the trust Johnson has in Haynes, given their long working relationship that spans almost a decade.

Earlier that night, Johnson publicly praised Trump’s address on a talk show, criticizing Democrats for their behavior during the event. He stated that it was disappointing to see such disruptions, which he believed reflected poorly on the Democratic Party.
