The Bears bought the Arlington International Racecourse property for $197 million in 2023. Governor Pritzker has expressed cautious support but remains firm against using public funds for the stadium itself. Recently, they approved a bill to create a Northwest Indiana Stadium Authority, which aims to build and fund a new stadium. This bill includes a long-term lease requirement for the Bears, ensuring they cover repairs and keep all revenue from the venue.
Pritzker acknowledges that the Bears might genuinely consider this move to Indiana, not just as leverage in negotiations. He believes that several of the requests from state officials are things the Bears would agree to in order to stay in Illinois.
