Special Olympics Bharat held a wonderful send-off ceremony for a 49-member team heading to the Special Olympics World Winter Games 2025 in Turin, Italy. This group includes 30 athletes and 19 support staff who are excited to represent India.
Key figures at the event included Mansukh Mandaviya, the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, along with Mallika Nadda, President of Special Olympics Bharat, and V.K. Mahendru, the Executive Director.
“Our athletes show incredible determination and spirit. You inspire the whole nation. We’re all excited to see you compete and bring pride to India. Fly the tricolor high!” Mandaviya encouraged the athletes during his speech.
The World Winter Games will take place from March 8 to 15 in Italy. India will have 30 players competing in six sports: Alpine Skiing, Cross Country Skiing, Floorball, Short-track Speed Skating, Snowboarding, and Snowshoeing. This event will welcome 1,500 athletes from 102 countries, showcasing their talents in eight different sports.
The dignitaries shared their best wishes with the athletes, motivating them to perform at their best and make the nation proud. To mark the occasion, athletes received garlands and traditional Himachali woolen caps as tokens of good luck.
“You are a true inspiration, showcasing the power of determination,” said Mallika Nadda. “Remember the challenges you’ve overcome. Keep your resilience in mind, and you will conquer every hurdle. We believe in you!”
