The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Assembly recently passed four key pieces of legislation, including the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Climate Action Board Bill 2025 and the Ease of Doing Business Bill 2025. These laws aim to improve climate response and create a friendlier environment for businesses in the province.

As climate change becomes a pressing issue, the Climate Action Board Bill aims to tackle problems like melting glaciers and deforestation. This new board will coordinate all climate initiatives in the region and will have the authority to make legal decisions, manage funds, and create contracts. It will include members from various government departments and the private sector, chaired by the Additional Chief Secretary. Their goal is to oversee provincial climate strategies, manage finances, and connect with scientific communities.

This board will also keep track of greenhouse gas emissions and promote projects for a low-carbon economy. A dedicated fund will support its efforts, symbolizing a serious commitment to addressing climate challenges. One Assembly member remarked that this is a significant step for Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa to handle climate issues in a sustainable way.

In addition to climate legislation, the Assembly passed the Ease of Doing Business Bill 2025. This law simplifies business processes in the province by creating a digital platform for all regulatory needs like registrations and permits. Both small and large businesses will benefit from getting digital IDs, and all transactions will be electronic, streamlining operations tremendously.

A new Directorate of Ease of Doing Business (EDBD) will manage this system, ensuring it stays up-to-date and effective. The Chief Minister will lead a Steering Committee to oversee these reforms, keeping business needs at the forefront.

Another important law, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Tourism (Amendment) Bill 2025, extends the contracts of the current tourism police. As the tourist season approaches, lawmakers believe this extension is crucial for maintaining safety and security in tourism while ongoing recruitment is in process.

Overall, these legislative changes reflect a proactive approach to both environmental and economic challenges in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, aligning local governance with modern needs.
