Mason Marchment has joined the Columbus Blue Jackets after being traded from the Seattle Kraken. The deal includes a second-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft and a fourth-round pick in 2026.
At 30 years old, Marchment has had a steady season, registering 13 points with four goals and nine assists in 29 games. He made the move to Seattle from the Dallas Stars on June 19 in exchange for two draft picks.
Fans can expect to see Marchment make his debut with the Blue Jackets against the Anaheim Ducks this Saturday night. Columbus coach Dean Evason praised Marchment’s competitive spirit, saying, “He competes hard and brings a lot of intensity to the game.” His past performances in Minnesota and Dallas have impressed the coaching staff, and they are eager to see what he brings to the team.
Marchment is currently in the final year of a four-year contract worth $18 million, making an average of $4.5 million per year. After this season, he will become an unrestricted free agent. In his NHL career so far, he has accumulated 202 points from 80 goals and 122 assists across 331 games played for teams like the Toronto Maple Leafs, Florida Panthers, Stars, and Kraken.
General manager Don Waddell believes Marchment will make a significant impact: “He’s a physical, hard-nosed competitor with proven offensive skills. We’re excited to welcome him to our lineup.”
In recent years, the NHL has seen a trend towards acquiring players with a mix of physicality and skill. Marchment fits this mold perfectly, embodying both a strong work ethic and offensive talent. His addition comes at a crucial time for the Blue Jackets, who are looking to strengthen their roster as they pursue a playoff spot.
