The Dallas Mavericks have announced that they are parting ways with Jason Kidd, ending his five-year stint as head coach. Anthony Davis faced a left adductor strain in his debut for the team, and star guard Kyrie Irving tore his ACL soon after. The team struggled, losing 30 out of their last 37 games that season. Reflecting on the struggles, Kidd remarked, “We have to be healthy at some point. We want that to be next season.”
The Mavericks are now looking for a new head coach under the direction of their newly appointed executive, Masai Ujiri. Ujiri emphasized the team’s need for change, stating, “We have high expectations for this franchise and a responsibility to build a basketball organization capable of sustained championship contention.”
Looking to the future, the Mavericks face the challenge of rebuilding while holding onto star players like Cooper Flagg and Irving. Flagg, just 19, completed his rookie season, while Irving has one more year left on his contract before he can exercise a player option for 2027.
