Breaking News: QB Sanders to Skip Combine Workout – What This Means for His Draft Prospects

Shedeur Sanders, the quarterback from the University of Colorado, is among the top prospects for the NFL draft this April. However, he won’t be participating in workouts at the scouting combine in Indianapolis, according to sources.

While he won’t throw at the combine, Sanders will meet with various teams to discuss his skills and potential. The combine starts Monday, but quarterbacks are set to arrive on Tuesday. Their workouts are scheduled for Saturday.

It’s unclear if Sanders will undergo the usual medical exams that all prospects participate in at the combine. Rather, he plans to showcase his skills at Colorado’s pro day next month. Many top prospects prefer this familiar setting over the combine.

Sanders isn’t the first top quarterback to skip the workouts. Chicago Bears’ Caleb Williams, who was the No. 1 pick last year, also chose not to throw at the combine. Similarly, Jayden Daniels, who won NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year, and New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye opted out of the combine workouts as well.

In a recent appearance on ESPN, Deion Sanders, Shedeur’s father and Colorado’s head coach, praised his son’s talent. He highlighted the challenges Shedeur faced, stating that he had seven different offensive coordinators during his four years at Jackson State and Colorado yet consistently performed well.

On Mel Kiper Jr.’s latest Big Board, Shedeur Sanders is ranked as the No. 4 overall prospect and the top quarterback, ahead of Miami’s Cam Ward. Both Sanders and Ward have trained together since the end of the season.

In the 2024 season, Sanders achieved an impressive 74% completion rate for the Buffaloes, leading the Big 12 in passing yards (4,134), touchdowns (37), and passing yards per game (318.0). Over his two years at Colorado, he set an FBS record with a 71.8% completion rate, showcasing his remarkable talent and consistency.

The latest news about Sanders’ decision not to work out at the combine was first reported by NFL Network.
