Breaking News: Suns Trade Kevin Durant to Houston Rockets in Blockbuster Deal for Jalen Green and Dillon Brooks

Kevin Durant is making moves again. After much speculation, he’s being traded from the Phoenix Suns to the Houston Rockets. According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Suns will receive Jalen Green and Dillon Brooks, along with the No. 10 pick in the 2025 draft and five future second-round picks.

This deal won’t finalize until July 6, as it involves restrictions tied to Green’s rookie contract. The second-round picks will extend all the way to 2032, as noted by NBA insider Jake Fischer.

Durant had been eyeing Houston as a potential landing spot. While the Suns were also negotiating with the Miami Heat, the agreement with the Rockets was reached last Sunday.

Now, Durant is joining a Rockets team focused on rebuilding, supported by promising players like Amen Thompson and Alperen Şengün. In the meantime, Green and Brooks will head to Phoenix.

This marks the end of Durant’s run with the Suns, which began after he was traded from the Brooklyn Nets in 2023. The Suns had hoped to create a powerhouse with Durant and Devin Booker, but they never found the success they envisioned in a competitive Western Conference.

In his first season with Phoenix, Durant helped the team progress to the second round of the playoffs. Unfortunately, they fell to the Denver Nuggets, who went on to win the championship. The following season showed promise, but the Suns struggled to secure a strong performance. After finishing with a 49-33 record, they were swept in the first round by the Timberwolves.

The recent season was particularly disappointing. The Suns parted ways with head coach Mike Budenholzer after one season, and they ended up with a disappointing 36-46 record, placing them 11th in the Western Conference. Following this, it was reported that the Suns would work with Durant to find a new team.

Though Durant is now 36, he’s still a significant player. He made the All-Star team for the 15th time last season, averaging 26.6 points, 6 rebounds, and 4.2 assists, all while shooting impressively from the field and beyond the arc.

The trade adds to the already noticeable changes in the Western Conference, which has seen several major trades recently, including deals involving stars like Luka Dončić and Anthony Davis. This shifting landscape makes the competition even more intriguing.
