Breaking News: Trump’s Tariffs Update – White House Adviser Slams India’s ‘Enormously High’ Tariffs!

Trump’s Tariff Talks: What’s Happening?

Recently, Kevin Hassett, an adviser to Donald Trump, criticized India’s tariffs as “enormously high.” He made these comments just before Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Washington. Trump has previously labeled India as a “big abuser” when it comes to trade and has pushed for more balanced tariffs.

In response, India is considering lowering tariffs, especially on sectors like electronics and medical equipment. This move aims to encourage more exports from the US.

Meanwhile, news of Trump’s upcoming 25% tariffs on steel and aluminum imports has Brooklyn traders a bit jittery. Even though this could escalate trade tensions, US stock markets reacted positively. The Dow Jones rose by 287 points, the S&P 500 increased by 0.6%, and the Nasdaq gained 0.7%. Traders seem hopeful about upcoming economic reports, which may balance concerns over the tariffs.

Trump’s new tariffs will impact all foreign imports of steel and aluminum, including from close allies like Canada and Mexico. Additionally, he has plans to introduce reciprocal tariffs to match what other countries impose on US goods. This strategy aligns with his broader trade agenda, which has previously targeted Chinese imports and others from Europe and Taiwan.

The European Union has responded to the news by calling these tariffs “unlawful” and has warned of potential retaliatory action against the US.

The tariffs could affect key suppliers, raising the potential for increased trade friction. Trump’s past tariffs on steel and aluminum strained relationships with allies, although some restrictions were relaxed under the Biden administration. It’s still uncertain if these new tariffs will compound previous ones, but Trump has made it clear that he believes in matching tariffs: “If they charge us, we charge them.”
