Breaking News: U.S. Department of Education Launches Title IX Investigation into Athletic Associations – What It Means for Student Athletes

The U.S. Department of Education is looking into the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) and the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF). This investigation follows their plans that may go against federal laws protecting girls’ and women’s sports.

Recently, there have been discussions about letting male athletes compete in women’s sports and use their facilities. Craig Trainor, Acting Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights, emphasized that both organizations must follow federal law.

Trainor stated, “These leagues can express their views as they wish, but they are still required to adhere to federal regulations. Our goal is to ensure that female athletes are treated with dignity and equality, as mandated by law.” He reminded these organizations that opposing federal civil rights can lead to serious consequences.

President Trump’s Executive Order, “Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports,” underscores the commitment to protect women’s athletic opportunities. It states that educational programs must not deprive women and girls of fair chances in sports and should ensure access to all-female locker rooms.

The Department of Education is also investigating other universities and organizations, such as San Jose State University and the University of Pennsylvania, for similar Title IX violations. They are reviewing policies across various schools to make sure they are in line with protections for female athletes.
