FD&C Red No. 3, known as erythrosine or E127, is a food dye commonly found in many processed products like candies, drinks, and baked goods. Recently, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has decided to ban its use due to growing concerns about its health risks. This decision comes after years of discussions and petitions by health groups, including the Center for Science in the Public Interest.

The FDA first allowed this dye in 1969, but new research has raised alarms about its potential link to cancer and potential thyroid problems. Animal studies have shown disturbing effects, such as thyroid tumors and neurotoxicity, although no direct human link has been established just yet. It’s important to note that California already banned this dye earlier this year, and the nationwide ban will take full effect by 2028.

Currently, erythrosine is still used in some products around the world, with regulations varying by country. For instance, the European Union has restrictions only for certain types of cherries, while India continues to allow it with set limits.

In another important development, NTPC Ltd, a state-owned power company, has created a new subsidiary called NTPC Parmanu Urja Nigam Ltd (NPUNL) focused on nuclear energy. This initiative follows governmental approval and represents a significant step towards harnessing nuclear power in India.

Additionally, a joint venture with the Nuclear Power Corporation of India (NPCIL) was formed to enhance nuclear power plant development. The goal is to build and operate nuclear facilities in accordance with national regulations.

Recent research led by a team from the Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics in Pune revealed an ancient cosmic web filament dating back 11.7 billion years. This filament is crucial for understanding how galaxies formed and evolved over time. The scientists discovered it by analyzing light from a quasar, which is a bright galactic core, using advanced telescopes in Chile.

The filament stretches an impressive 850,000 light-years, highlighting how interconnected galaxies are within the universe. The research indicates that such structures play a vital role in star formation and galaxy growth, although they are challenging to observe because of their faintness.

The findings reveal that the galaxies within the filament form a unique alignment, suggesting a deeper underlying structure that could expand our understanding of the cosmic web.

This fascinating work is set to be published in *The Astrophysical Journal Letters*, bringing more insights into the cosmos.
