Pittsburg State University’s Baseball Stars Shine Bright
Pittsburg State University is buzzing with excitement over two standout baseball players. Senior outfielder Dagen Brewer has been named the Ron Lenz Player of the Year by the NCAA Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA). This isn’t just a fluke; he also snagged a spot on the first-team All-America list.
Brewer had an astonishing season, hitting .442 with 87 runs, 24 doubles, 25 home runs, and a remarkable 107 RBIs—setting a new single-season Division II record—all in just 56 games. He dominated the MIAA, leading in nearly every major hitting category. Brewer ranks among the top in the nation, seated seventh in batting average and runs scored, and impressively, he scored nearly two runs per game.
Earlier this season, he was the MIAA Player of the Year and took home multiple All-Region honors. Brewer even earned the title of D2 National Player of the Year from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers of America (NCBWA).
But it isn’t just Brewer making headlines. Junior outfielder Eric Bacon also had a stellar year, earning a spot on the third-team All-America squad. He put up solid stats with a .404 batting average, 87 runs, 17 doubles, and 74 RBIs. Together with Brewer, they broke the Pitt State single-season record for runs scored and Bacon set a new record with 95 hits. He ranks third in Division II for runs scored and fifth in hits.
Bacon’s fielding skills also stood out, as he received the MIAA Gold Glove award with a .977 fielding percentage, making six assists in the outfield.
Both players show how hard work and talent can lead to remarkable achievements. Their success not only highlights their dedication but also elevates Pittsburg State’s reputation in collegiate baseball. With these stars on the team, the future looks bright.
