The Milwaukee Brewers made a noteworthy move by placing outfielder Christian Yelich on the 10-day injured list due to a left groin strain. This decision comes after Yelich had an impressive start to the season, hitting .314 with a home run and three stolen bases in just 56 plate appearances. He left a recent game due to what was initially thought to be a hamstring issue, but it turned out to be a groin strain. Fortunately, there’s no clear indication that he’ll be out for an extended period.
Yelich is not alone on the injured list. Outfielder Jackson Chourio and first baseman Andrew Vaughn are also recovering from injuries, both having suffered hand fractures. The Brewers are also missing pitcher Quinn Priester due to thoracic outlet symptoms and Jared Koenig with an elbow sprain.

To cover Yelich’s absence, the Brewers called up Greg Jones from Triple-A Nashville. Drafted by the Rays in 2018, Jones has shown great speed, stealing 46 bases in 2024 alone. However, his performance in the majors has not been stellar, with just one hit in seven at-bats so far. His minor league stats reflect a mixed bag; while he boasts a decent average of .317 this season, his overall Triple-A performance has raised some eyebrows due to a high strikeout rate.
Jones has primarily played outfield recently but started as a shortstop, showcasing his versatility. His speed and ability to cover ground make him a valuable asset for the Brewers, even if he’s still finding his footing at the major league level.
On the pitching front, Rob Zastryzny’s move to the 60-day injured list adds to Milwaukee’s challenges. After rehabbing from a shoulder issue, Zastryzny’s injury means he’ll miss a significant portion of May. Despite not having high strikeout numbers, Zastryzny managed an impressive 2.12 ERA over the past two seasons, contributing effectively to the Brewers’ bullpen alongside other left-handed pitchers.
