Brian Schottenheimer Discusses Training Camp Highlights in Oxnard and Who’s Set to Face the Ravens

OXNARD, Calif. – The Cowboys wrapped up their final training camp practice in Oxnard, marking Brain Schottenheimer’s first camp as head coach. This week, he and the team focused on important preparations as they head back to Texas.

Schottenheimer is taking time to reflect on the camp. He’s pleased with the players’ dedication throughout. “We made a lot of progress as a team,” he said. “Today’s energy was great. I was worried they might be distracted thinking about heading home, but they stayed focused.”

One key aspect of training camp is completing the offensive and defensive game plans. The Cowboys accomplished that and used extra time for additional drills. Schottenheimer highlighted their emphasis on the red zone and critical situations like third downs. “We got through everything we needed to, and the flow was solid,” he noted.

Next, the Cowboys will play the Baltimore Ravens at AT&T Stadium. Schottenheimer confirmed that Joe Milton will start at quarterback again. Fans are curious if Will Grier will get a chance to play. “You never know,” Schottenheimer joked. “He always keeps us guessing.”

Rookie running back Jaydon Blue might also see action, but it depends on pre-game workouts. First-round pick Tyler Booker will debut, and veteran Miles Sanders is ready to play, though his participation is still uncertain.

As the team prepares to leave Oxnard, Schottenheimer feels a mix of sadness and excitement. “It’s tough to leave this close-knit environment,” he shared. “But we still have a lot of work ahead. I look forward to getting back to Frisco and settling in. There’s much to do as we prepare.”

With only three weeks until the season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles, time is short. Schottenheimer feels the urgency. “We know that first game arrives quickly. We’re gearing up and ready for it,” he said.

In the NFL, preparation is critical. Training camps are where teams build chemistry and strategy. According to a recent survey by NFL.com, nearly 70% of fans believe that successful training camps significantly impact a team’s performance during the season. This sentiment shows the importance of focusing efforts now to shape future successes. As fans look ahead to the season, they’ll be keenly watching how the Cowboys’ hard work in camp translates onto the field.
