The Brighton High School Varsity Science Olympiad team is shining bright after winning runner-up at a recent competition. Coached by Shannan Pereira, who brings her engineering expertise to the team, they faced off against several strong competitors.
At the Eagle Invitational in Frankenmuth, Okemos High School took first place, while Brighton secured the second spot, followed closely by Allendale in third. The Brighton students showcased their skills in a variety of areas, including entomology, experimental design, forensics, and robotics, consistently earning top three finishes in each event.
Coach Pereira is proud of her team’s hard work. “They put in a lot of personal time to prepare for these competitions,” she noted. “They support each other and strive to improve. I’m thrilled with how they represent Brighton Area Schools.”
The team’s next challenge is this weekend at the University of Michigan, where they’ll compete against 60 teams from states like Ohio, Indiana, Wisconsin, Illinois, and Michigan. Scranton Middle School’s Science Olympiad team will also join this exciting event.
