Brignone Triumphs in Cortina World Cup Super-G as Vonn Faces Dramatic Crash

Federica Brignone showcased her exceptional talent by winning the super-G at Cortina d’Ampezzo. This victory strengthens her lead in the World Cup standings, but it was a disappointing day for Lindsey Vonn, who crashed out.

At 34 years old, Brignone is already a remarkable figure in skiing. She clocked a time of 1 minute and 21.64 seconds, finishing 0.58 seconds ahead of reigning champion Lara Gut-Behrami. This win also marked Brignone’s first triumph on the Olimpia delle Tofane piste, which will host women’s alpine events at next year’s Winter Olympics.

“I enjoy this spring-like snow; it allows me to glide down the slope. Every mistake can be costly,” Brignone said. She emphasized the importance of maintaining focus and consistency as she aims for her second overall World Cup title. Currently, she holds a comfortable lead of 106 points over Camille Rast, who did not compete on Sunday.

Italian teammate Sofia Goggia finished in seventh place, struggling with her rhythm on the course. She noted, “I didn’t ski with the same flow as I did yesterday. I felt off from the start, and it cost me a podium finish.”

Lindsey Vonn faced challenges this weekend, unable to find her stride, having finished 20th in Saturday’s downhill. Despite her tough outing, the Olympic champion still aims to continue her comeback, with the next challenge being the giant slalom in Kronplatz, a stepping stone toward the World Championships next month.
