Broncos Insights: CB Jahdae Barron Displays Impressive Skills; WR Pat Bryant Shines in Contested Catch Highlights

Englewood, Colorado — The Broncos’ first-round pick is living up to the hype.

Head Coach Sean Payton has been impressed with Texas cornerback Jahdae Barron during practice. He noted that Barron displays the skills they evaluated in the pre-draft phase.

"He’s exactly what we saw on tape: smart and savvy," said Payton. "His quick reflexes make him a strong player in coverage. He understands formations well, which gives him an edge. You can see the experience in his play."

Barron, the 2024 Jim Thorpe Award winner for the best defensive back, is excited to be back on the field for the first time since January. He is focused on grasping the complexities of the NFL.

"I’m adjusting," Barron explained. "Learning the plays and the shifts in the offense is key. It’s a different game at this level."

After the Broncos drafted Illinois wide receiver Pat Bryant in the third round, Payton drew a comparison to former Saints star Michael Thomas. Bryant appreciated the praise but emphasized his desire to forge his own identity.

"It’s great to be compared to a player like Thomas," Bryant said. "But I want to be the best version of myself."

Part of that involves making tough catches, something he demonstrated during practice.

"When the ball is in the air, I’m focused on it," Bryant said. "Those are the catches that are crucial for my success here."

Last season, the Broncos dealt with low expectations but rose to the occasion. This year, the narrative is shifting positively. Payton noted they’re ready to take on the higher expectations, especially with the upcoming schedule release that could mean more prime-time games.

"It’s part of the deal," said Payton. "We’re excited about the level of competition and the rich history of this team."

The Broncos had nearly 60 players at Saturday’s practice, including around 30 on college tryouts. Payton mentioned they might sign a few for training camp, highlighting the team’s history of success with undrafted players.

On another note, linebacker Dre Greenlaw is "on schedule" with his recovery from injury and is expected to be fully participating by the time training camp begins.

In the NFL, success often hinges on a blend of talent, strategy, and mental agility. With promising newcomers like Barron and Bryant, the Broncos seem poised to make a significant impact this season.
