Broncos Tee Off: Join Western Michigan Golf at the Exciting Badger Invitational!

MADISON, Wis. – The Western Michigan women’s golf team is ready to hit the greens this weekend at the Badger Invitational. This tournament, hosted by the University of Wisconsin, takes place at the scenic University Ridge Golf Course from September 14 to 16.

After a strong showing in their previous event, the Broncos aim to keep their winning spirit alive. In a round-robin format, teams will play three rounds of 18 holes. The top four scores from each team will contribute to the final score for every round. Competing alongside Western Michigan will be several other teams, including South Dakota State, Illinois, and Colorado State.

WMU’s lineup for this event includes Megha Vallabhaneni, Bella Brooks, Jenna Hayes, Lauren Lupinek, and Danielle Daniy. They all showcased impressive teamwork at the A-Ga-Ming Invitational, where the Broncos secured third place. Vallabhaneni stood out, finishing fourth with a score under par, while Brooks made waves by tying the program record for the lowest individual round at six under par.

The University Ridge Golf Course is a par 72 layout measuring 6,297 yards. You can find it conveniently located just a short distance from the university. The Broncos will tee off Sunday morning at 10:10 a.m., with subsequent tee times determined by their standings in the tournament.

In recent years, women’s college golf has seen significant growth. According to the National Golf Foundation, female participation in golf has risen by more than 30% over the last decade. This boost reflects not only the sport’s increased visibility but also significant changes in how women are viewed in athletics.

Engagement on social media has also mirrored this growth. Fans and players are more active than ever, sharing highlights and milestones from tournaments. This growing online presence is essential for encouraging more young women to consider golf as a viable and exciting sport.
