Three people lost their lives, and eight others were injured during a shooting at the Taste of the City lounge in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, early Sunday morning. The incident occurred just before 3:30 a.m. inside the crowded venue on Franklin Avenue.
When police arrived shortly after receiving 911 calls, they found multiple gunshot victims. The group included eight men and three women, ages ranging from 27 to 61. Tragically, three men were declared dead at the scene. The others are receiving medical care for injuries that are not life-threatening.
According to NYC Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch, the violence erupted from a dispute inside the lounge. Investigators reported that multiple shooters were involved and recovered at least 36 shell casings.
At this time, no suspects are in custody. Detectives are reviewing CCTV footage from the area and investigation is ongoing. Police did find a firearm near Bedford Avenue and Eastern Parkway, but it remains unclear if it’s connected to the shooting.
This is not the first time the lounge has faced violence; there was another non-fatal shooting there in November 2024.
Gun violence has continued to be a pressing issue in urban areas. A recent study from the Gun Violence Archive shows that in 2023 alone, there have been over 500 mass shooting events in the U.S. With discussions around gun control on social media, many are calling for stronger regulations to prevent such tragedies.
This latest incident in Crown Heights leaves the community shaken and raises questions about safety in local nightlife spots. As the investigation unfolds, there is a collective hope for justice and healing for those affected.
